The European Council points to the urgent need to speed up the supply of missiles and ammunition, and especially as part of the initiative to transfer one million shells to Ukraine.
The heads of state and government of the member states of the European Union supported the increase of funding for the European Peace Fund, where funds are allocated for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine to fight against the aggressor. This was stated on Thursday, December 14, in the conclusions of the European Council approved at the summit.
“The European Union and its member states will continue to address Ukraine’s urgent military and defense needs. In particular, the European Council stresses the importance of timely, predictable and sustainable military support for Ukraine, especially through European Peace Fund and the EU Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine, as well as within the framework of direct bilateral support of member countries,” the document says.
In this regard, the European Council noted the urgent need to speed up the supply of missiles and ammunition, and especially as part of the initiative to transfer a million shells to Ukraine, as well as to provide Ukraine with a large number of air defense systems.
“The European Council invites the European Commission to step up work on the reform of the European Peace Fund and further increase its funding, based on the proposal of EU High Representative Josep Borrell,” the document said.
Germany provided a powerful military aid package to Ukraine, which included the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.
