The EU will try to agree another package of sanctions against the Russian Federation on the second anniversary of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

After long negotiations, the leaders of the EU member states agreed on the twelfth package of sanctions against Russia. The Guardian reported this on Thursday, December 14.

Although the text was agreed upon by all countries earlier this week, Austria did not give final approval until late Thursday evening.

The details of the new package of economic restrictions have not been disclosed, but it is known that the previously recommended package of sanctions by the European Commission included proposals to cut the commercial income received from the trade in diamonds by Russia and against a number of Russian officials. and businessmen, including the son of Dmitry Medvedev.

It is reported that the final decision on adopting a new package of sanctions should be made in the coming days.

Earlier it became known that EU ambassadors did not agree on the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia – this time because of Austria’s position. It was noted that Austria’s dissatisfaction was caused by the fact that Ukraine included the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International in the list of international sponsors of the war.
