On Thursday, December 14, European Union leaders at a summit in Brussels accepted the European Commission’s recommendation to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced this on the social network X.
The European Council has decided to begin EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, the report said.
The European Union also granted Georgia candidate member status. And the EU will begin negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina as soon as the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is achieved.
President Vladimir Zelensky has already responded to the decision of EU leaders. He called today’s decision not only a victory for Ukraine, but a victory for all of Europe.

Prime Minister Denis Smigal emphasized that with this decision the European Union highly appreciated the reforms made by our country in recent years and the implementation of all recommendations of the European Commission.
Let us recall that on December 14, the summit of EU leaders started in Brussels. European officials not only had to signal the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, but also plan to approve a new package of sanctions against Russia and vote on a €50 billion aid package for Ukraine during 2024-2027.
