A division of Russian paratroopers suffered heavy losses while trying to dislodge Ukrainian forces from the village of Krynki on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region, despite Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin’s claims. This is stated in the analytical report of the military intelligence of the British Ministry of Defense on December 14, published on social network X.
“At the beginning of December 2023, the newly formed 104th Guards Airborne Division of the Russian Airborne Forces (VDV) likely suffered heavy losses and did not complete its assigned tasks during its combat debut in the Kherson region.
The operation took place after the division joined the Dnieper group of Russian troops and tried to break the Ukrainian bridgehead near the village of Krynki on the east bank of the Dnieper. The 104th Guards Airborne Division was reportedly poorly supported by aviation and artillery, and many of the troops were likely inexperienced,” the report said.
According to British analysts, after this incident, Russian military bloggers called on the commander of the Dnepr forces group, Colonel General Mikhail Teplinsky, to resign.
“This was a blow to Teplinsky’s reputation as one of the most capable Russian field commanders in the war: in his regular position he was also the commander of the Airborne Forces,” believed British intelligence.
Let’s remember that Vladimir Putin said in a direct line that in Krynki the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly “lost dozens of people from the elite assault detachment,” and in the Russian Armed Forces “there were only a few wounded .” He also expressed hope that soon there will be no UAF fighters in Krynki – and this will be the last wave of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
