The document also talks about the creation of the Office of the Special Inspector General for Assistance to Ukraine.
The legislation would also extend through 2024 the U.S. president’s authority to provide or lease defense items to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The National Defense Authorization Act also provides for a 5.2% increase in salaries for American military personnel.
Funds to support Ukraine and Israel included in the budget are separate from the $111 billion additional funding bill that is stuck in Congress.
USA Today clarifies that the budget provides 300 million for the Ukraine Security Support Initiative in the 2024 fiscal year and the extension of the initiative until 2027.
