Russia’s army will move further west if Ukraine is defeated in the war, the president believes.
After capturing Ukraine, Russia intends to go further to the West, believes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He spoke about the Kremlin’s possible plans at an online meeting with Danish journalists on Tuesday, June 14th.
“They (the Russian Federation) want to be as influential as possible on the geopolitical map of the world. And therefore Ukraine is not enough for them. In a few days they want to occupy the whole of Ukraine, they want to change power Ukraine’s politics to show all the smaller states that are in the USSR or have influence from the USSR army (where this army stands), what will happen next. That you have to continue to rely on the Russian Federation, ” said Zelensky.
He believes that if Ukraine is defeated in the war, the Russian army will move further west.
“Kyiv was not the finish line in their marathon. It was a strong start for them. But we showed our strength. And now it is very important that our Western partners show this strength to us,” he said. Zelensky.
The President said the war should end with respect for the Ukrainian people and the sovereignty of Ukraine.
“The war can end when we are Ukrainians and we are the only ones to go to our land. Of course, we invite any person to our land, but only to visit and be unarmed. That is for sure. Therefore, this war must end with respect for our people, respect for our land, respect for our people, the children, our present and future and, finally, respect for our sovereignty, “he said.
Zelensky added that Ukraine needs to restore the integrity of the territory. “I understand that not at once. I understand that this is a big challenge. The Russian Federation is fighting us. The second army, as they say, is the most powerful in the world,” the president said.
Earlier, Zelensky said time was working for Russia, because its leadership did not care how long the war lasted.
