The leader of the US House of Representatives refused to continue the work of representatives for the week before the Christmas holidays to consider aid to Ukraine.
The speaker of the lower house of the US Congress – the House of Representatives – Republican Mike Johnson refused to support the call of the Democratic leader in the Senate to extend the work of both chambers for a week to receive additional funds , especially for Ukraine. Ukrinform reported this on Wednesday, December 13.
The White House called it a rejection of measures vital to US national security.
“As you heard yesterday from the President (Biden – ed.), the American people will not abandon Ukraine and its fight for freedom against tyranny. But Speaker Johnson said the House of Representatives will finish its work tomorrow without agreeing on border issues, without funding Israel, without funding for urgent needs for Ukraine,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
He emphasized that this encourages potential aggressors on a global scale.
“The world is watching the actions of Republicans in Congress. Moscow, Beijing and Tehran are all watching. House Republicans should not be home for the holidays when important steps need to be taken to keep the United States and the world safe,” he said.
Let’s remember that the previous day, President Vladimir Zelensky met with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson in Washington. Both leaders positively assessed the results of the negotiations. He also held a meeting in the US Senate, where he talked to American politicians about the security and economic situation and answered their questions.
