The Dutch politician had earlier praised the Kremlin leader, and Russian propagandists congratulated him on his election victory.
Chief Freedom Party and potential Dutch Prime Minister Geert Wilders on Wednesday, November 13, called Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin a dictator. Bloomberg reported this.
The politician won the election on November 22 and called for the creation of a coalition that includes the National Socialist Movement, the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy, formerly led by Rutte, and a party that supports farmers.
Russian television channels hailed Wilders’ victory in the elections as a victory for Moscow, as he had previously praised Vladimir Putin, the news agency said. However, Wilders tried to convince Dutch lawmakers that he is not a “friend of Russia” and considers the Russian Federation an aggressor.
“Putin is a terrible dictator,” said the politician.
At the same time, Wilders said that military support should not be given to Ukraine while “we cannot defend our country.”
The center-right New Social Contract and the Farmers and Citizens Movement, two of its potential coalition partners, have also expressed doubts about Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and additional financial support.
As already written, in 2024 Ukraine will receive an additional 2.5 billion euros from the Netherlands.
