Our goals for ’24 are clear – to deny Russia air superiority and disrupt their offensive operations. This is real,” Vladimir Zelensky said before the start of negotiations with Joe Biden.
Congress must pass additional funding for Ukraine before they go on holiday break, before they give it the biggest Christmas gift they can give it, the US president said, according to senior White House reporter for Bloomberg News Jennifer Jacobs.
The American president also addressed words of support directly to Zelensky:
I don’t want you to lose hope.
When journalists asked Zelensky, can he defeat Russia without additional US help? He didn’t answer, shrugging his shoulders.
Jacobs noted that Ukraine wants to quickly begin working with frozen Russian assets, which amount to more than $300 billion, to use them for protection in the war with Russia.
Zelensky also said that he wants to talk with Biden about European integration:
Ukraine continues to reform its institutions even during war. This is very important and people need to be confident that freedom is safe and strong enough to win.
Biden also said that he had already agreed to provide Ukraine with another package of military assistance worth $200 million.
After this, the open part of the meeting ended, and a joint press conference of the leaders is expected in due course.
