Ukraine is now making efforts on two fronts: in the military and in starting negotiations on accession to the EU.
The situation at the front is heating up, and Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to create new momentum in the war against Ukraine. For its part, the European Union should respond to this and increase its support for Ukraine. This was said on Monday, December 11, by the Vice-President of the European Commission, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in a briefing after the meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers in Brussels.
He noted that now the West’s attention is focused on ways to help Ukraine win its defense war against Russian aggression.
Borrell said he spoke with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and spoke personally about developments on the front.
“Russia is regrouping, mobilizing more troops, acquiring and producing military equipment. We must support Ukraine in its countermeasures,” Borrell said.
He noted that the activation of Russian troops occurred against the backdrop of the onset of winter and the announcement of Putin’s ambitions for a new presidential term.
Borrell noted that last night Russia carried out its first ballistic missile attack on Kyiv in more than two months.
“We must do everything possible to prevent a victory for Putin’s Russia. We must continue to support Ukraine. We have started dialogue and expert consultation with Ukraine about future security obligations. We must provide support operationally and militarily, but we must also work on long-term funding.” , Borrell emphasized.
As the leading European diplomat said, Ukraine is making efforts on the second front – on the way to the start of negotiations on accession to the EU.
Borrell called on the EU to remain united and strengthen Europe’s defense industry, as well as help Ukraine increase its defense production.
