Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak reported this on the X network (Twitter).
EU ambassadors met all day (Sunday) in Brussels. There is no progress, since Hungary blocks everything related to Ukraine. If this is decided, then at the EU summit on December 14-15, Jozwiak said.
The European Commission will allocate ten billion euros to Hungary from previously “frozen” money from the European Union, The Guardian reports, citing diplomatic sources.
However, according to diplomats, part of the money will be provided not because of the “blackmail” of Hungarian Prime Minister Orban to block negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, but allegedly because of Hungary’s implementation of judicial reforms.
The Guardian reported that allies of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will hold a closed meeting in Washington with Republican Party officials to block American aid.
Viktor Orban, whom Vladimir Zelensky met briefly at the inauguration of Argentine President, is holding back key Western decisions regarding Ukraine. The following four important issues depend on Hungary:
- macro-financial package of 50 billion euros for 2024-2027;
- Military assistance from the EU worth 20 billion euros for 2024-2027;
- 500 million euros in ongoing military assistance (Hungary is already blocking);
- Beginning of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Last week, Orban met with French President Emmanuel Macron, who invited his Hungarian counterpart to Paris to discuss Budapest’s position towards Ukraine.
