The Bethlehem Fire of Peace has arrived in Ukraine

A solemn ceremony of welcoming the fire of Bethlehem, which came from the homeland of Jesus Christ, took place in St. Sophia Cathedral of the capital.

The Bethlehem Light of Peace arrived in Ukraine from Slovakia – it was handed over to representatives of the Plast scouting organization. The fire was moved to the international pedestrian checkpoint Malye Selmentsi. Lamps and candles were lit from the fire. The State Border Service of Ukraine reported this on Sunday, December 10.

Next, the fire will be brought by Ukrzaliznytsia to 24 railway stations in Ukraine, reported on the UZ Telegram channel, where plastuns will spread the fire in their communities. Also, lamps will be delivered to the front line for soldiers of the Ukrainian Defense Forces along with Christmas gifts.

Ukrinform

Bethlehem Light for Peace is an international annual scouting event to celebrate the Nativity of Christ. The symbolic fire was lit by scouts in the Palestinian town of Bethlehem and spread to other countries. Fire symbolizes peace, love and goodness. This tradition has existed since 1984. In Ukraine, fire first appeared in 1992.

We remind you that from November 15, the Kiev Pechersk Lavra switched to the New Julian calendar, which is the main one for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Let’s remember that from September 1, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine switched to a new style of calendar, where the new Julian calendar is used to calculate immovable holidays.

With the transition to the new Julian calendar for fixed holidays, VCU will celebrate Christmas on December 25th, instead of January 7th. Intercession is October 1, Epiphany is January 6, and St. Nicholas Day is December 6. The celebration of the moving Easter and the holidays associated with it will remain unchanged.

At the same time, parishes and monasteries wishing to follow the old calendar will have this opportunity.
