The North Atlantic Alliance will provide its members and allies with everything they need for defense.
NATO will not wait for Russia to rebuild its military after its defeat in Ukraine and will ensure that its members and allies have something to defend against potential aggression. US Ambassador to NATO Julian Smith announced this on Sunday, December 10, on Latvian television.
He emphasized that NATO will not wait for the end of the war, but will start building up its forces now.
“Even though it took several years to rebuild the Russian military after it ended the war against Ukraine, NATO has to assume that the Kremlin is capable of launching a new aggression,” Smith said.
At the same time, he pointed out that the United States managed to significantly increase the production of weapons and ammunition, for example, almost doubling the production of 155 mm caliber shells.
He also noted that in many European countries, defense enterprises have switched to round-the-clock operations and are using “very creative and innovative strategies” to “replenish the dwindling reserves of NATO armies and give Ukraine everything it needs.”
“We have new plans, a new strategy, a new doctrine, and we are also focused on hybrid threats – not only on tanks that can cross the border, but also on cybersecurity. We are focused on countering disinformation and protecting critical infrastructure,” the ambassador said.
We remind you that according to the survey, 78% of Ukrainians support Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO.
The former Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, believes that Ukraine can be accepted into NATO, but “guarantees of collective self-defense” will not be extended to the territory under Russian occupation.
