The North Atlantic Alliance hopes that in the coming years NATO will expand and the border will move to the east.
NATO hopes that the Alliance will expand eastward in the coming years. This is what NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joan said, reports Ziua de Vest.
The NATO Deputy Secretary General is convinced that in the coming years Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the Western Balkans will become part of the European community, and then members of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Joane believes that Romania will soon cease to be NATO’s eastern border, as the Alliance’s borders will move eastward. “Therefore it is time for Romania to finally escape from the periphery of Europe and place itself in the center of Europe in terms of importance,” he said.
The Deputy Secretary General of NATO also recalled the difficult situation in which the whole of Europe finds itself.
NATO works flawlessly. It has highly organized and trained people. NATO has worked very well since the beginning, but now it is a very difficult situation that we all face in Europe. It is clear that the maps of political and geopolitical influence, economic and commercial influence, reputation and centrality in Europe and in the world are now distributed,” said Joane.
We remind you that according to the survey, 78% of Ukrainians support Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO.
The former Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, believes that Ukraine can be accepted into NATO, but “guarantees of collective self-defense” will not be extended to the territory under Russian occupation.
