Baltic diplomats said allowing Russian athletes to compete in the Olympics without the flag “will not wash the blood off their hands.”
The heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Estonia condemned the decision of the International Olympic Committee allowing the Russians to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics in a neutral status. Both diplomats wrote about it on their pages on the X platform (Twitter).
In particular, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis mentionedthat the IOC’s decision is not neutrality, it goes against everything the Olympics stands for.
“Russia is recruiting sportsmen and women into its genocidal army. This is not neutrality, it is against everything the Olympics should stand for,” Landsbergis wrote.
In this regard, the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Margus Tsahkna wrotethat allowing Russian athletes to compete in the Olympics without the flag “will not wash the blood off their hands.”
“The IOC’s decision goes against everything Olympism stands for,” Tsahkna stressed.
We remind you that Ukraine and 34 other countries formed a coalition against the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
Today the IOC welcomed athletes from Russia and Belarus to the 2024 Olympic Games. They will compete under neutral status.
Ukraine condemned this decision and did not rule out the possibility of a boycott of the Olympics.
