The corresponding decision was made on December 8 by the International Olympic Committee. Russian and Belarusian athletes will take part in the Olympics in a neutral status. In addition, strict selection conditions will be applied based on the recommendations issued by the IOC Executive Board on 28 March 2023 for international federations and organizers of international sporting events. This was reported on the committee’s website.
It is noted that athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport will be registered as individual neutral athletes (AIN). At the same time, teams of athletes from Russia or Belarus are not considered.
Athletes who actively support Russia’s war against Ukraine will not be entered into the Olympics. Athletes under contract with the Russian Belarusian military or national security services will also not be allowed to compete.
No flag, anthem, colors or any other identification of Russia or Belarus will be displayed at the Olympic Games in Paris at any official venue or any official event. Belarusian and Russian will not be accredited to the Games.
Let us recall that in October the IOC suspended the work of the Russian Olympic Committee due to the inclusion of so-called “sports organizations” from the temporarily occupied Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
