The reason for the price increase is said to be a decrease in the supply of low-quality products. Manufacturers tried to stock high-quality products.
Onion prices in Ukraine rose to 12-16 UAH/kg ($0.33-0.44/kg), which is on average 20% more expensive than last week. This was reported by EastFruit.
The main reason for the increase in prices is said to be a decrease in the supply of low-quality products, while manufacturers tried to stockpile high-quality products, not without reason expecting prices to increase for them .
In addition, the increase in onion prices encourages a noticeable revival of trading activity on the eve of the New Year holidays. At the same time, the supply of high-quality onions today is quite limited, which also contributes to the increase in prices for these products.
According to EastFruit, on December 7, Ukrainian farmers sold onions at least 43% cheaper than the same period last year. At the same time, market participants do not rule out that the increasing price trend in this segment will continue in the future, provided that the current sales rates are maintained.
Let’s remember that in October in Ukraine there was a drop in prices for some products, especially for new vegetable crops.
As reported, most of the dishes on the New Year’s table will cost more than before, including due to the blocking of the border by Polish carriers, but at the same time there will be some that will be cheaper.
