Russia’s accusations against Yaroslav Gunko are related to the “genocide of civilians on the territory of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War.”
The Russian Prosecutor’s Office has appealed to Canadian authorities with a request to extradite 98-year-old Yaroslav Gunko, a veteran of the SS Galicia. Interfax wrote this on Thursday, December 7.
Russian law enforcement officials accused him of involvement in the murders of Soviet citizens on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR. According to them, there must be at least 500 such people.
It is indicated that the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) accused Gunko in absentia of the genocide of the population of the Lvov region.
It should be noted that the Investigation allegedly obtained documentary evidence from the State Archive of the Russian Federation and the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about the places of deployment and the conduct of battles of the SS Galicia division, if where Gunko Served. The Russians claim that Gunko was allegedly involved in the murders of not only Soviet citizens, but also Poles and Belarusians in 1944.
Russia says they need Gunko to hold a public trial.
The SS Galicia division was created by German troops from Ukrainians to fight the Red Army in 1943.
The Nuremberg trials and the Deschenes Commission, created in Canada in the 1980s, did not confirm the involvement of members of the division in war crimes.
We remind you that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologized on behalf of the state for inviting a veteran of the SS Galicia division to parliament during Vladimir Zelensky’s speech. The day before, the speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Anthony Rota, resigned, inviting the veteran of the SS Galician division to the parliament and introducing him as a veteran of the Second World War who fought against the Russians.
Veteran of the SS Galicia. Big scandal in Canada
