The bill may be brought up again for consideration in the Senate. The Republicans, who did not support him this time, insisted that these were not votes against Ukraine, but internal problems of the United States.
A bill on an aid package to Ukraine may be reintroduced in the US Senate, as senators did not support the end of the debate on the document. This is what the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova said on Facebook.
“As we predicted, the Senate did not support the end of the debate on the international aid package bill,” Markarova wrote.
He recalled that Republican Party representatives, who had previously announced a negative vote on international aid, had previously said they would not support a bill that did not include the issue of the US’s southern border and changes to immigration policy.
At the same time, Markarova emphasized that this does not make it impossible to reintroduce the bill to a vote in the near future.
“What does this mean for Ukraine? In all the meetings, the senators assured us that today’s vote is not a vote against Ukraine,” Markarova wrote.
He noted that diplomats continue to work actively and hope that before Christmas, Congress will support an agreed package that will include defense, budgetary, humanitarian and energy assistance for Ukraine for 2024.
We remind you that on December 6, the aid bill to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan did not receive enough votes to move forward. The day before, during the discussion of this bill in the Senate, a scandal occurred between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans have vowed to block funding unless Democrats agree to meet their condition of adding tougher measures to curb migration at the US border with Mexico. Also, President Vladimir Zelensky, who was supposed to explain to senators why this bill is important, canceled at the last minute.
