Defense Minister Rustem Umerov discussed with his Belgian colleague Ludivine Dedonder the transfer of aircraft and the necessary equipment and pilot training.
The head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized that “it is now necessary to begin the process of debugging the supply chains of ammunition, spare parts and technical equipment for the F-16.”
During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of receiving representatives of the Belgian military-industrial complex in Ukraine early next year. The total volume of technical assistance from the Kingdom of Belgium for the Ukrainian Defense Forces amounts to more than 320 million euros.
Belgium has not officially announced the number of aircraft it is ready to hand over. There were claims about several cars. In general, Belgium’s task is to train pilots and maintain all coalition F-16s that will be transferred to Ukraine.
F-16s are needed as quickly as possible. So that the enemy becomes a real problem,” Air Force Speaker Yuri Ignat said last week.
According to him, the Russians are launching many guided bombs towards the south of Ukraine.
They don’t stop doing it. FABs (high-explosive aerial bombs – ed.) became KABs (guided aerial bombs – ed.). Now no one simply abandons FABs, because they fly into the range of our air defense and deliver remote strikes,” Ignat said.
