This was stated by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. He called the first procedural vote on the additional $106 billion relief package proposed by Biden, The Hill writes. It will take place later this week.
A closed briefing for senators is scheduled for 3:00 pm ET. US national security officials will take part in it.
On December 4, President Joe Biden’s administration called on Congress to urgently agree on additional funding to help Ukraine.
We are running out of money,” White House Budget Director Shalanda Young wrote in a letter to congressional leaders.
She called for additional funding to help Ukraine and stressed that the US is running out of funding and time to support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
In a letter addressed to House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Young noted:
I want to be clear: Without Congressional action by the end of the year, we will run out of resources to purchase more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to supply equipment to the U.S. military stockpile. There is no magic funding source to meet this moment. We’re out of money and almost out of time.
Young called on lawmakers to act immediately and outlined a stark outlook for Ukraine if American aid is not provided.
