The European Joint Venture for High Performance Computing (EuroHPC) has introduced the latest LUMI supercomputer. It is based in Kajaani in Finland. The LUMI is the fastest and most power efficient supercomputer in Europe and ranks third in the world in terms of computing speed.
The computer was jointly created by EuroHPC and 10 other countries in Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Czech Republic and Estonia.
“Thanks to its enormous computing capabilities, the LUMI will serve as scientific achievements, for example, in medicine and climate research, it is the fastest supercomputer in Europe, one of the three most powerful in the world,” said Margrethe Vestager, Vice -President. of the European Commission for Digital Technologies.
Most likely, the maximum power of this supercomputer will be 550 petaflops, or 550 million billion calculations per second.
