Four people became victims of a terrorist attack during a church service, and fifty others were injured.
An explosion occurred at a university in the Philippines during a Catholic mass on Sunday, December 3. At least four people were killed and 50 others were injured. ISIS militants claimed responsibility for the blast, Reuters reported.
The attack took place at the university gymnasium in Marawa, a city in the south of the country that was besieged by Islamist militants for five months in 2017.
It is known that the Islamic State group, which has influence in the south of the country, has reported its involvement in the incident.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Gilberto Teodoro said that the security forces will continue the fight against terrorism at the same level as before. He also referred to “clear signs of a foreign element” in the incident, without giving further details.
In a press conference, police spokesman Emmanuel Peralta said fragments of a 16mm mortar were found at the scene.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron proposed to use the anti-IS coalition in the fight against Hamas.
