The production of Fuchs armored personnel carriers will be possible from the end of the summer of 2024, emphasized the general director of the concern Armin Papperger.
The German concern Rheinmetall Group plans to launch the production of its armored vehicles in Ukraine as early as 2024. This was announced by Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger in an interview with WirtschaftsWoche published on Saturday, December 2.
“After signing the contract, we want to have the first all-wheel drive car in Ukraine in about 6-7 months, and the first Lynx in 12-13 months,” said the general director.
The production of Fuchs armored personnel carriers in Ukraine will be possible from the end of the summer of 2024, and the production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles may begin in the summer of 2025.
“The first ten Lynx armored vehicles are already being produced here in Germany or Hungary, in joint production between us and Ukraine. After the ramp-up phase, we will quickly be able to produce a large number of these vehicles entirely in Ukraine,” he said .
According to him, the service of German armored vehicles has already been established in Ukraine, where Ukrainian specialists were trained in Germany.
He also added that he does not see any safety problems in the Ukrainian factories of concern.
“We don’t build new plants; instead, like Rheinmetall, we lease existing plants, refurbish them and then run them. And they seem to be well protected – at least this is shown by the experience of the last two years of war,” he said.
Rheinmetall is Ukraine’s largest partner. In particular, in 2022 the group accepted orders worth approximately 900 million euros, and in 2023 the volume of orders increased to approximately 2.5 billion euros.
As we wrote earlier, the government of Ukraine entered into a contract with the German concern Rheinmetall for the supply of Leopard 1 tanks.
