The entry of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov into the OSCE summit is justified, because “it is important that he personally hears criticism of the Russian Federation.” The President of Diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, announced this on Wednesday, November 29, in a press conference with the head of the North Macedonian Foreign Ministry, Dimitar Kovacevski, in Skopje.
He noted that he understands the dissatisfaction of some European countries with North Macedonia’s decision to allow Lavrov to participate in the ministerial meeting. However, according to Borrell, the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister will help maintain the “multilateralism” of the summit.
In addition, Borrell believes the Russian minister needs to hear from other participants why Russia finds itself isolated after a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“And then he can go back to the Kremlin and report to the owner of the Kremlin that the European Union and the OSCE remain alone in condemning Russia’s aggressive, illegal behavior. At least from this point of view , it will be useful, ” explained the head of EU diplomacy.
We remind you that the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, will go to the OSCE meeting, where the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, will go. However, he had no intention of contacting the latter. He said he did not want “the seat of the European Union to be empty” at the meeting.
