The Iranian regime uses a complex network of foreign companies and brokers for illegal business activities.
The United States announced the introduction of a new package of sanctions against two dozen individuals and organizations in Iran and other countries that provided financial income to the Iranian regime. This was reported by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury.
Among the foreign companies providing revenue for the Iranian regime’s military needs are companies from Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.
“Today, OFAC imposed sanctions against more than 20 individuals and entities for their participation in financial schemes benefiting the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff ( AFGS) and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps – Force Qood (IRGC-QF),” the message said.
It was noted that thanks to these schemes, Iran received billions in revenue from the sale of goods. The funds were used to finance Iran’s activities to destabilize the region, as well as to support a number of regional proxy groups, including Hamas and Hezbollah.
As noted by the US Treasury, the Iranian regime uses a complex network of foreign companies and brokers to conduct illegal business activities and exploit the international financial system.
Let’s remember that the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against several companies from Iran, China, Russia and Turkey that contributed to the smuggling of parts for the production of Iranian aircraft and drones.
It was also reported that the EU Council decided to continue tough measures against Iran as part of the sanctions regime for nuclear proliferation, in response to Iran’s violation of the terms of the JCPOA – the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the nuclear program of Iran.
