For the first time in history, Russia failed in three elections to international bodies in less than a month, the Ukrainian leader said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the countries that supported Ukraine’s candidacy and voted to exclude Russia from the executive committee of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). He wrote about it in Twitter on Wednesday, November 29th.
“For the first time in history, Russia was not elected to the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. The OPCW is a very authoritative international body, and terrorists have no place here. At the same time, Ukraine , Poland and Lithuania were elected for the period of 2024-2026. Ukraine will actively contribute to the strengthening of the OCP,” the head of state wrote.
The President noted that for the first time in history, the Russian Federation failed in three elections to international bodies in less than a month.
“This is a natural result of Russia’s actions: its role in international affairs continues to decrease, and its isolation continues to grow,” Zelensky emphasized.
Earlier this Wednesday it was learned that 21 countries were elected to the executive board of the OPCZ. Russia is no longer among the council members from the Eastern European region. Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania were elected to this group this year.
The conference of participating countries of the OSCP takes place in The Hague from November 27 to December 1.
Let’s remember that in early November, a representative of Russia was not elected to the International Court of Justice for the first time. He lost to Romania’s representative, former Foreign Minister Bogdan Auresco.
For the first time, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) did not elect Russia to one of its main bodies, the Executive Council.
