Precious stones worth 950 thousand zlotys (8.6 million UAH) were confiscated from a smuggler who arrived from Dubai.
A Ukrainian woman was jailed in Poland for trying to smuggle precious stones in her stockings. It was reported that the contraband was discovered during control at the Warsaw airport. The State Tax Administration of Poland announced this on Tuesday, November 28.
It is said that among the hidden stones are diamonds and certificates for emeralds and rubies. The weight of all the stones is more than 138 carats. The Mazowieckian Tax Administration seized the contraband.
“The Ukrainian citizen claimed that he flew to Dubai to collect important documents. Precious stones were found in his luggage. They were hidden in a sock, as well as in boxes with cosmetic accessories,” the State Tax Administration reported .
The value of seized precious stones is estimated at more than 950 thousand zlotys (8.6 million UAH at the NBU exchange rate). “If the stones were sold, the damage to the state budget would amount to more than 200 thousand zlotys,” added the tax administration.
The case is being handled by the Mazowiecki Customs and Tax Office in Warsaw. The Ukrainian woman faces a fine.
