Press Secretary Elen Nikolenko said that we are talking about a boycott of the meeting precisely at the level of foreign ministers – the Ukrainian delegation will be present at the level of ambassadors.
Nikolenko also thanked Skopje for prioritizing the issue of countering Russian aggression against Ukraine during its chairmanship of the OSCE.
Last Friday it was reported that North Macedonia would briefly lift its flight ban on Russia next week, allowing Lavrov to attend the meeting. This window will run from November 29 to December 1, when North Macedonia will host a meeting of OSCE foreign ministers. Subsequently, Bulgaria also announced the opening of the corridor.
Russia is one of the 57 OSCE members, which is currently chaired by North Macedonia. The fact that Muscovites were invited to the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE countries became known in early November.
The Baltic countries also decided to boycott the OSCE summit in Skopje at the invitation of Lavrov.
The Baltic foreign ministers announced on Tuesday that they would not participate in the meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers in Skopje. This is stated in a joint statement released by the Estonian Foreign Ministry.
We deeply regret the decision to allow Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to attend the 30th session of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Skopje. This is another opportunity for Russia to spread its propaganda. Lavrov’s presence at the OSCE Ministerial Council also threatens to legitimize aggressor Russia’s legitimate membership in our community of free nations, humiliate the horrific crimes committed by the Russian Federation, and enable it to flagrantly violate and flout the OSCE’s fundamental principles and commitments. We, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, will not take part in this and will not take responsibility for the consequences this will lead to,” the statement says.
