The Turku City Council approved the demolition of the building, which was built in 1974, and the construction of a new one in its place. The ground should also be cleaned.
The city council of the Finnish city of Turku unanimously decided to demolish the building of the former Consulate General of the Russian Federation and build a new building in its place. This was reported by the Yle portal.
It was noted that the city will buy the building from its current owner, Senate Properties, for 1.6 million euros.
The City Council also approved the demolition of the building, which was built in 1974, and the construction of a new one in its place. The land also had to be cleared because the site was the site of a foundry and galvanizing plant in the early 1900s.
The City Council decided that the purchase would go ahead without waiting for possible appeals.
We remind you that on November 16, Finland decided to stop the operation of four of the nine border checkpoints at Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Nirala, and from November 18 they will be closed to traffic. This is a response to the significant increase in refugees and asylum seekers arriving from the territory of the Russian Federation. Applications from migrants for asylum began to be accepted only at the borders of Vartius and Salla.
