The organized group included military personnel and military unit employees who entered into a conspiracy with private entrepreneurs and sold some of the products intended for the soldiers in shops, restaurants and bazaars.
They took away at least 30% of the food supply, correspondingly reducing the food supply standards for the military.
During the searches, significant amounts of cash were seized from the defendants. Currently, evidence has been received of the misappropriation of at least UAH 5 million.
Officials of the military unit and one of the businessmen face penalties of up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property, the State Bureau of Investigation reported on November 27.
