Finland has refused to comply with Ankara’s condition on joining NATO – to be handed over to Turkish people accused by the Turkish government of being linked to terrorists.
Finnish President Saule Niinistö has said his country will not join NATO separately from Sweden, where they have applied for membership together, according to NRK.
“I will say that the case of Sweden is our case. It means that we will move forward together,” the President of Finland said.
He also noted that Ankara’s claims in Helsinki and Stockholm about allegedly supporting terrorists had “shocked” him.
“We are surprised by Turkey’s position, but in global politics we must take seriously what the other side is saying. And so we will. I hope we can find a solution that satisfies everyone,” Niinistö added.
Yesterday it was reported that Finland has refused to comply with Ankara’s condition for joining NATO – to be given to Turkish people accused by the Turkish government of being linked to terrorists.
Recall that the Turkish authorities have set ten conditions for Sweden and Finland to lift the veto on their NATO membership.
