The release of aid has been delayed by disagreements between Republicans and Democrats in the US Senate over the security of the US’s southern border.
Voting on US President Joe Biden’s request for aid to Ukraine and Israel may take place on December 4. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said this on Sunday, November 26, Politico wrote.
He emphasized that he plans to put the financing issues to a vote this very day.
Politico indicates that Senate Republicans are seeking to make changes to border security policy and make it part of any additional spending bill. Schumer calls this request the “biggest obstacle” to new funds for Ukraine’s defense against Russia and Israel’s war on Hamas.
“This has resulted in an issue with decades of partisan differences tied to the priorities of a large bipartisan majority,” Schumer said.
The publication points out that there will almost certainly be 60 votes to give tens of billions more dollars to Ukraine, but Republicans have warned that they won’t do it without provisions on border security.
“Nothing would please Putin or Xi more than to see the United States waver in our support for the Ukrainian people and their military. is a courageous Putin.” Schumer said.
He also said that in the next few days there will be a briefing of all senators in Ukraine.
The head of the House Intelligence Committee, Republican Mike Turner, said that new American aid to Ukraine and Israel will be difficult to accept before the end of the year.
We remind you that on November 20, the US Department of Defense announced the provision of additional assistance to Ukraine in the field of security and defense. The next military aid will be the 51st “tranche” of equipment for Ukraine, starting in August 2021.
