In recent weeks, Greek shipping companies Minerva Marine, Thenamaris and TMS Tankers have stopped transporting Russian oil, Reuters reports.
They transported Russian oil for decades and continued to do so when most other Western companies gave up to avoid increasing sanctions risks.
The decision by Greek shippers was preceded by tightening US sanctions imposed on the supply of Russian oil.
This development of events is a blow for Russia, according to Reuters, since it narrows the number of shipping companies willing to transport Russian oil to consumers in Asia, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa and South America.
Previously, Bulgaria closed the oil loophole that allowed Russia to earn 1 billion euros.
Bulgaria has decided to stop importing crude oil from Russia in March 2024, six months earlier than planned, it said on November 22.
It is noted that the country’s government made this decision to prevent Russia from circumventing Western sanctions after it became known that this loophole allowed the Kremlin to raise an additional 1 billion euros for its military actions against Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy reported.
