South Korea has suspended part of its military agreement with North Korea since 2018 after Pyongyang ignored a US warning and launched a spy satellite.
The heads of the foreign policy departments of the countries of the Group of Seven (G7) condemned the actions of Pyongyang, which the previous day launched a rocket into space, despite strict restrictions, and also transferred of weapons to Russia for the war against Ukraine. The corresponding joint statement of the G7 ministers was released on Wednesday, November 22, by the US State Department.
Specifically, the statement said that any launch using ballistic missile technology, even if it is characterized as a military reconnaissance satellite, is “a clear, flagrant violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”
In addition, the G7 emphasized that the DPRK continues to develop nuclear weapons, which is contrary to UN resolutions.
The G7 also condemned the supply of North Korean weapons to Russia, which it plans to use in the war against Ukraine.
“We call on North Korea and Russia to comply with these UN Security Council resolutions and immediately cease any such activities,” the statement said.
The G7 called on the world to respond “quickly, unitedly and decisively”.
