An audit by the Ministry of Defense revealed violations in one of the military units in the Chernihiv region worth almost 40 million Hryvnia.

The command of a unit of one of the military units in the Chernihiv region paid 1.7 million UAH of damage caused by the state. Before this, an audit by the Ministry of Defense revealed violations in the unit worth about 40 million Hryvnia. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported this on Wednesday, November 22.

It was noted that 1.5 million Hryvnia was reimbursed in cash and 200,000 UAH in property in kind (3.1 thousand liters of diesel fuel and 13 batteries).

“The money was credited to the account of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the property is reflected in the records of the military unit and is used for its purpose,” the message said.

As the department points out, among other things, the losses were caused by the fact that the commander of a military unit illegally decided to repair military property and give it as scrap metal.

“However, units dismantled for scrap may be suitable for restoration of damaged military equipment,” the Ministry of Defense said, citing the audit results.

It is indicated that the amount of damage caused by this military unit, after partial compensation, is 37.1 million hryvnias.

Internal audit materials were transferred to law enforcement agencies, criminal proceedings were registered under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Committed fraud on a large scale). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, the internal audit service of the Ministry of Defense for cooperation with law enforcement agencies conducted an inspection of one of the military units in the Chernihiv region. Auditors found violations that resulted in damage to the state in the amount of 38.8 million Hryvnias.

We remind you that earlier NABU detectives conducted searches of private companies involved in the supply of defense industry products. The searches were conducted as part of an investigation into possible embezzlement of public funds on a particularly large scale during state procurement of defense products.
