Bridges connecting Canada and the United States in the Niagara Falls area are closed due to safety concerns.
A car exploded at a border checkpoint between the United States and Canada. ABC News reported this on Wednesday, November 22.
The explosion occurred on the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the two countries and spans the Niagara River at Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls mayor’s office noted that a car traveling from Canada to the United States had exploded.
“The vehicle passed through the main passport and license checkpoint. According to multiple law enforcement sources, the vehicle was directed to another location for a second search. While the vehicle was on its way to the second search location, an explosion occurred ,” the journalists reported.
Journalists reported two dead in the car at the time of the explosion. A 27-year-old man was also injured. Take him to the hospital with minor injuries.
The FBI, New York State Police and US Customs and Border Protection are investigating. Federal authorities are trying to get video from different angles because witness accounts differ, sources said.
According to ABC News sources, intelligence agencies are not ruling out that this is a terrorist attack. Investigators found a suitcase or briefcase at the scene. They are considering it as a possible explosive device, and bomb experts are working on the search.
