This was voted on Tuesday, November 22, at the 24th session of the General Assembly of the countries party to the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
It is noted that last summer Ukraine submitted its candidacy to this committee for the period 2023-2027. And in 1988, Kyiv ratified the 1972 Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The UNESCO World Heritage status is based on this document.
Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostislav Karandeev said that the election of Ukraine to the World Heritage Committee opens up new opportunities for active participation in the implementation of the Convention, in particular, making decisions on the use of the World Heritage Fund and the inclusion of sites in the World Heritage List and the World Heritage List. heritage is under threat.
Let us recall that in July the Verkhovna Rada called on the United Nations to deprive the Russian Federation of membership in UNESCO. And on November 15, it became known that Russia, for the first time in history, was expelled from the Executive Council of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Agency. Also this month, Russia was not elected to the International Court of Justice for the first time in history.
