Since February 24, 2022, at least 10 thousand civilians have been killed in Ukraine as a result of military operations and shelling. Among the victims are more than 560 children. More than 18 thousand 500 civilians were injured. The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine reported this on November 21.
It is noted that the milestone of 10 thousand civilian casualties was crossed on November 15. That day, a Russian missile hit a four-story residential building in the town of Selidovo, Donetsk region, killing four civilians.
According to the head of the Monitoring Mission, Danielle Bell, Russia’s war against Ukraine threatens to turn into a long-term conflict, which will entail losses of human lives, the scale of which will be colossal.
At the same time, the UN emphasized that the figure of 10 thousand dead are only those cases that were verified using the Organization’s own methodology. And 86% of the total number of confirmed cases occurred in territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. Most of the deaths were caused by Russian artillery shells, cluster munitions, rockets and loitering munitions.
Over the past three months, nearly half of the civilian deaths and injuries occurred away from the front lines. It can be stated that there are no completely safe places in Ukraine now,” Belle was overcome.
Let us remind you that the independent international commission of the UN to investigate violations in Ukraine collected new evidence in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions indicating the systematic nature of torture by the Russians.
