He spoke about this in an interview with The Sun.
According to Zelensky, the first attempt on his life was perceived in the same way as the first outbreak of coronavirus.
The first one is very interesting… it’s like COVID. People don’t know what to do about it and it seems very scary. And then intelligence simply shares with you the details that another group arrived in Ukraine to (accomplish – ed.) this,” the president emphasized.
The publication notes that the first attempt on Zelensky’s life took place on February 24, 2022—the first day of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine—by Russian special forces who landed in Kyiv. It is noted that Zelensky’s security blocked his office with improvised barricades and pieces of plywood, and his closest assistants were given guns and bulletproof vests.
One of the president’s aides said that during the first few weeks of the war, at least a dozen attempts were made on his life, but Zelensky himself, in response to a question about how many attempts he survived, noted that he “really doesn’t know.”
When asked whether Ukraine would risk assassinating Russian dictator Vladimir Putin if the opportunity presented itself, Zelensky noted:
This is a war, and Ukraine has every right to defend its land.
