The country is ready to close the last four checkpoints on the border with Russia on the night of November 22.
Finland may close all remaining checkpoints on its land border with Russia. The government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo may make a corresponding decision today, November 20. This is reported by the Finnish publication IltaLehti.
According to sources, the government of Prime Minister Petteri Orppo may decide that all checkpoints on the land border with Russia will be closed on the night of Wednesday, November 22.
Finnish authorities cited the uncontrolled arrival of refugees from Syria, Iraq and Somalia as the reason for this decision.
Currently, there are only four border crossing points in Finland on the eastern border of the land with the Russian Federation.
We remind you that on November 16, Finland decided to stop the work of four of the nine border checkpoints at Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Nirala, and from November 18 they are closed to traffic.
This is a response to a significant increase in refugees and asylum seekers arriving from the territory of the Russian Federation. Applications from migrants for asylum began to be accepted only at the borders of Vartius and Salla.
In addition, Finland said it is considering the possibility of completely closing the border with the Russian Federation.
