This was announced at a press conference on November 16.
The winner will become the first absolute in this weight category since 1999.
Usik compared his fight with Tyson Fury to the biblical story of David and Goliath:
When the Lord puts it in my hands, I will do my job.
Alexander also, after the press conference announcing the fight, explained additional motivation for the fight against the Briton:
A great opportunity is to become an absolute world champion. For my family, for the country, for the people who defend it.
The Usyk-Fury fight was originally scheduled to take place on December 23. However, it was later postponed to a later date, as the Briton fought Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
