The Russian Federation is no longer a member of the international parliamentary organization, which it, in particular, was founded 30 years ago.
Russia has officially suspended participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization. This was announced by the head of the permanent delegation of Ukraine to PABSEC, Anna Purtova, reports the press service of the Verkhovna Rada Apartment.
“Now we can officially say: Russia has stopped its participation in PABSEC. We fought for it for two years, not allowing the Russians to make any decisions – from approving orders to receiving document – and we won!” – said Purtova.
He emphasized that the absence of Russian representatives has completely changed the work environment of the organization.
At the same time, a member of Ukraine’s permanent delegation to PABSEC, Alexander Marikovsky, clarified that Russia sent a letter notifying its withdrawal, traditionally accusing members of the organization of provocations.
“Russia is no longer a member of the international parliamentary organization, which it, in particular, was founded 30 years ago. Of course, they made a “gesture of goodwill” and sent an official letter. Now there is an official confirmation letter,” said the parliamentarian.
The 62nd General Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization is currently underway in Kyiv. Representatives of the parliaments and secretaries of 12 countries and international observer organizations are participating in it.
On December 7, 2022, Russia was expelled from PABSEC. In May 2023, in Turkey, at the PABSEC summit in Ankara, clashes occurred between representatives of Ukraine and Russia over the Ukrainian flag.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) was formed on February 26, 1993. It includes 12 countries: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Armenia, Greece, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.
