Armenia has not yet made a decision to leave the organization, but has “diversified relations” in the security field.
Armenia is looking for other partners in the field of security, but the country has not yet decided to leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization. This is what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, Novosti-Armenia reports.
“The CSTO, despite its legal obligations, has not responded properly to Armenia’s security challenges. With all due respect to our colleagues, we just note that it is not clear to our public either why we go every time (to CSTO meetings – Ed .), we repeat, don’t get an answer and come back,” he said.
According to Pashinyan, de jure the CSTO refuses to regulate its area of responsibility in Armenia. “This could mean that in these conditions, by remaining silent, we could share a worldview that could threaten Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he added.
The prime minister emphasized that “we do not intend to announce changes in strategic policy until the decision to leave the CSTO is made and announced.”
Pashinyan announced that the country has diversified its security relationship. “Our partners in the security sector, in particular for objective reasons, cannot sell us arms and weapons. We discuss this openly,” he said.
We remind you that for the first time since 2009, Armenia will not take part in the meeting of the CSTO Security Council, which will take place on November 23 in Minsk.
At the beginning of the year, Armenia refused to conduct CSTO exercises on its territory.
