Militarny reported this.
Soldiers of the attack drone company of the 47th Mechanized Infantry Brigade published a video of the liquidation of Russian infantry against the background of the destroyed BMP-1U infantry fighting vehicle. These combat vehicles were produced in Ukraine and were captured by Russia during the Russian-Georgian war in 2008.
The defeat of this vehicle has already been captured on video by Ukrainian UAV operators near Avdiivka. Then it became widespread due to footage of a vehicle hitting its own infantry.
The appearance of these vehicles on the front lines first became known in mid-September. However, due to the low quality of the published video, it was not possible to definitely identify the modification of the infantry fighting vehicle.
In the new footage, you can see the KBA-105 Shkval combat module, which was installed on the BMP-1U, torn off as a result of the detonation of the ammunition.
“Militarny” writes that instead of the Ukrainian 30-mm automatic cannon ZTM-1, the Russians installed a Soviet 2A72 cannon in the module. The Ukrainian artillery mount structurally copies the Soviet one, but to reduce vibrations it has a special design that restrains the barrel when firing.
In addition, the module lacks a machine gun and a launcher for Konkurs anti-tank guided missiles. All this could be dismantled to simplify operation when preparing the museum exhibit for sending to the front.
The BMP-1U is a Ukrainian modernization of the Soviet infantry fighting vehicle, which was developed at the turn of the 1990s and 2000s.
The main changes primarily affected the weapons complex. Instead of the old single turret with a 73 mm main gun, a 7.62 mm machine gun and an PTKR launcher, a new unified combat module KBA-105 Shkval was installed. It is armed with a 30-mm ZTM-1 automatic cannon, a 7.62-mm KT-7.62 machine gun, and a 30-mm KB-117 automatic grenade launcher.
Due to the significant mass of the module, which weighs 1300 kg with full ammunition, as well as the space it occupies inside the hull, the number of BMP-1U troops decreased from 8 to 6 people.
It is known from open sources that during the Russian-Georgian war in August 2008, the Russian army captured up to 14 Georgian BMP-1U Shkval. In total, by the beginning of this war, Ukraine had supplied Georgia with 15 such infantry fighting vehicles.
