Representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties reached an agreement on the issue of aid for Ukraine.
The Senate (the upper house of the US Congress) will consider aid from the State of Ukraine and Israel after Thanksgiving, which Americans celebrate on November 23 this year. CNN writes this on Tuesday, November 14, citing Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer.
We are talking about a bill that would provide funds to help Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and to protect the border of the United States.
Schumer said he expects all four of US President Joe Biden’s requests to be approved by Congress.
“We need bipartisan support for all four, and I’m going to work, really hard, to get all four done,” Schumer said.
At the same time, as CNN notes, GOP senators are trying to split the combined relief package into separate, smaller bills.
Let’s remember that the House of Representatives of the US Congress approved the temporary funding for the government, to avoid the so-called shutdown. The White House tried to include a compromise of $6 billion for Ukraine in the draft budget until mid-November, but this initiative did not get enough votes.
As the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko said, the adoption of the temporary budget of the United States, which has no new costs to support Ukraine, will not affect the previously agreed aid.
