The US Treasury Department sent requests to 30 shipowners from different countries. These companies own about 100 tankers that could transport Russian oil. The US Treasury has not officially commented on this information, Reuters reports, citing its own source.
It is noted that some tankers were unloading Russian oil from the Pacific port of Kozmino, while others were loading at the port of Primorsk in the Gulf of Finland. In particular, one of the companies that received a request for information was Turkish Beks Shipping.
According to Reuters, this is the largest investigation by the American government since Washington and its allies introduced a price limit on Russian oil.
Let us remind you that Politico reported that in 2022 the European Union exempted Bulgaria from sanctions in order to protect its citizens from energy shortages. The loophole generated nearly €500 million in profits for refinery owner LUKoil after the exemption came into effect on February 5.
