The countries of the European Union are discussing the option of financing military aid for Ukraine with the participation of not all member countries, if the planned format through the European Peace Fund cannot be agreed upon. This is what Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said, European Pravda reports.
The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry was asked about the prospects for the approval of funds to finance military aid to Ukraine through the European Peace Fund. He noted that “there are opportunities to move forward” on this issue.
“There was a suggestion that countries that do not support their participation should be given the opportunity to do without it. That is, my country, as well as other countries that agree to participate, will bear a greater burden. We, that is , Lithuania, are ready for this… So, it will not be the consent of the 27 member countries, but of the smaller community,” said Landsbergis.
Let’s remember that in October, EU foreign ministers did not agree on the allocation of a tranche of 500 million euros from the European Peace Fund for military aid to Ukraine. The decision was blocked by Hungary.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who previously pledged to end military aid to Ukraine, said he did not intend to interfere with exports by private defense companies.
