The Netherlands reportedly sold these German-made weapons in 2016 for just 21 million euros, which the newspaper called a “ridiculous price.” The agreement was criticized at the time as weakening Dutch armaments.
Today the United States paid 110 million euros for the anti-aircraft gun. Ukraine is known to be actively using Gepard against Russian drones. This saves ammunition for more expensive anti-aircraft missile systems like the Patriot, IRIS-T and others.
Since the beginning of the war, Germany has transferred dozens of Gepard anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine. Also in Germany they launched a new line for the production of 35-mm Gepard bullets. Ukraine has started receiving ammunition from the Rheinmetall concern.
