A joint statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the country’s joint security service (Shabak) said Siam was killed along with other Hamas militants “while hiding in Al-Buraq School.”
The statement said Siam had previously “held approximately 1,000 Gazans hostage at Rantisi Hospital and prevented them from evacuating to the south for their safety.” The IDF and Shabak repeated in a joint statement that Hamas is “using civilians in the Gaza Strip as human shields for terrorist purposes.”
After days of trying to convince civilians to leave Rantisi Hospital, a large group of people finally left the hospital on Thursday. Video released on Thursday showed civilians waving white flags leaving the hospital courtyard, only to come under fire and be forced to flee back. The IDF then said that Hamas militants were responsible for the shooting.
So far, the report of Siam’s death has not been confirmed by Hamas or independently verified.
